Two images of a boy and his father in front of a faux woodland background, dressed in what might be fraternal outfits for the organization known as the Improved Order of Red Men. Both images are from the first half of the 1860s. The young boy is also wearing an earlier, four-paneled Niagara style hat that may have been modeled on the traditional Iroquois Gustoweh or “real hat” of the type generally worn by men among the Haudenosaunee. Both appear to be wearing moccasins that were decorated in the Niagara floral style and the boy is sporting a contemporary period Niagara style bag. Photographer: S.J. Thompson, Albany, New York.
